  • Youth Writer

    Responsibilities:

    Write for our blog! Utilize your unique voice and perspective to encourage critical thinking and engagement around issues related to exploitation. Work with SAS staff to choose topics that interest you most and work independently to write articles that will be shared on our website.

     

    Do you want to highlight anti-trafficking efforts being done at your school? Do you want to share your experience of participating in one of SAS’ presentations or programs? Are you interested in encouraging youth engagement and empowerment, examining cultural norms, or researching violence prevention success stories?  Come write for us!

  • Youth Leadership Board

    Responsibilities:

    Looking to organize with other youth? Our Youth Leadership Board meets twice a month to plan community events and advocacy projects, as well as act as allies for each other, our friends, and our communities as we work to end human trafficking.

     

    Youth Leaders come from all around King County to create, coordinate, and implement one project of their choosing each quarter. This is a unique opportunity for high school students who are committed and ready to be engaged in activism, advocacy, and community organizing.

Tech Volunteering

  • Software Engineering for Web Crawling

    Responsibilities:

    Volunteering with SAS on the tech team offers many different areas of work and we need a variety of skill sets! We are a remote-first engineering team. Learn more about out technology platform by reading about our technology program or visiting our marketing site.

    Our biggest need right now for software engineer volunteers is code contributions to our web crawling projects. We use web crawlers to identify potential victims of online sex trafficking as well as to measure the online market for trafficked sex. Our web crawling code base is well tested Python with many different areas of contribution including monitoring, DRYing up existing code and improving quality, as well as adding additional web crawlers to pull from sites where we know exploitation and trafficking happen.

    Desired Skills:

    • Experience with web crawling

    • Desire to write stable code with automated tests

  • Data Science & Analytics

    Responsibilities:

    What happens before and after we run our programs? Help us improve the repeatability and reliability of the statistics we gather about the efficacy of our program. Learn more about out technology platform by reading about our technology program or visiting our marketing site.

    Work on data analysis to understand the online landscapes where trafficking victims are posted and other insights such as measuring estimated numbers of minors or repeat victimizations across multiple locations.

    We gather data about buyers who interact with our bots—we need help creating repeatable analyses on recidivisms, repeat offenders, and buyer behavior. By better understanding those who victimize, we can work on stopping the victimization before it happens.

    Our biggest data science need right now is the creation of data dashboard in Tableau Online so that we can quickly pull numbers about our programs and their efficacy.

    Desired Skills:

    • Ability to build data dashboard in Tableau Online
    • Experience creating data visualizations
    • Python experience
    • Ability to connect over video call with our data science team
    • Comfortable using Git

  • UX/UI Design

    Responsibilities:

    We are looking for ongoing design volunteers who can help us with UI improvements and platform UX! Learn more about out technology platform by reading about our technology program or visiting our marketing site.

    We use Figma to maintain mockups for the platform but as we add new features, we need new designs. We also need help improving the existing user experience to communicate more clearly through the UI so that our customers can find what they need on the platform.

     

    Desired Skills:

    • Experience with design work for a software platform or app
    • Collaboration skills working with project managers, developers, and other designers
    • Skills with a design asset or mockup software such as Zeplin, Sketch, or Figma (we use Figma)
    • Ability to translate customer feedback into actionable design changes
